I have been wanting square canisters for my kitchen for a long time. In my opinion the circular ones waste space and don't sit as nicely on a counter top. Yet, I was having a hard time finding square canisters and at a decent price. While home visiting my parents this past summer I went to a garage sale and found square, vintage, plastic canisters! YEAH! Although the yellow was not what i wanted nor the gold lettering indication what was inside, ie; f for flour, s for sugar, etc.
Now, the lady wanted $25 for them, and in my garage sale opinion this was way too much for old plastic canisters. She explained they were vintage and would be hard to find anywhere else. Well, I couldn't bear to tell her that I planned on covering up the vintage color and gold decoration, because I didn't care that they were vintage, I just wanted them because they were square. I used my "walk-away" power that I learned in my Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University classes, after I offered $15 and she wouldn't come down. So, as we were getting ready to leave, so said $18 was the lowest she would go--and I took the offer!
So in an effort to update the vintage look, this was my final result and I LOVE how they turned out!! I used brown burlap and a red ribbon, then wrote the words with a paint pen. YEAH! For those wondering the "measure" one contains my measuring cups, not the cookies that it called for indicated by the gold "c". =)
