Advice to Engaged Couples: Slow Down and Look

As I am editing one of my weddings from last month, I am reminded about a small, but very important gesture that can often times be forgotten on your wedding day.

A wedding day is exciting, busy, full of emotion and is over before you know it.  The bride spends hours getting ready, making sure every detail is just right, every hair is in the perfect place and that she is ready to meet her groom at the end of the aisle.   Let's face it the groom is ready in about 15 minutes, 20 if he needs help with his cuff links.

The ceremony starts, all the family and bridal party portraits are done after the ceremony, then you jump in the limo and the party starts. Before you know it you are dancing to the last song and headed off into the sunset as a newly married couple.

The day was beautiful, fun, and memories were made, but did you remember....to stop...slow down...and look into the eyes of your new spouse!  This is what the day is about...you two starting your new life together. This day wouldn't be happening if it wasn't for the love between the two of you.

Before I was a wedding photographer I attended many weddings over the years. Something I always looked for during the ceremony was to see if the couple was holding each others hands. Have they made eye contact yet? Did he wink at her or whisper in her ear? What was the first thing they said to each other?

As I became a wedding photographer I still look for those moments so I can capture them with my camera.

Brides and Grooms who are about to walk down the aisle this wedding season...don't forget to stop...slow down...and look into each other's eyes. It only takes a second, but it is those moments that are important on such a busy day.  (and then your photographer can capture them so that you can remember them forever!)

Here are two such moments from Stephanie and Joe's wedding that inspired this blog!
