Kaitlyn: Class of 2017
I met Kaitlyn a few years ago when I did a mini-session for her whole family. I have since gotten to know her mom through the school that my kids go to, or our random...and somewhat often run-ins at Costco!
I did her older sister's Senior Session last year and she came along to scope it out. We had a perfect fall day for Kaitlyn's session and I was really excited to see how they turned out!

Best of 2014: All about the Shoes
I love that wedding trends have trended away from the traditional
white wedding shoes. Don't get me wrong, I do love the classic white. At
the same time, I think it is really fun when a bride decides to add a pop
of color to her ensemble with her shoes. I personally went with
practical for my wedding day. I am all about comfort and my husband and
I are about the same height, so I didn't want heels.
Even though I
am a photographer, I love to help make the wedding planning and wedding
day as stress-free as possible for my couples. I love to help by talking
through timelines, suggest venues and vendors and offer any helpful
advice to help the day run smooth.
My
business card for my wedding business is a picture of a great pair of
blue heels, telling the brides, "I've bee in your shoes." As in, "I have
been a bride. I know what you are going through...the fun, the excitement
and the challenges of planning a wedding."

52 Week Challenge, Week 14: New Chapter
First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage!
It
is a great honor to be the storyteller for a couple on their
wedding day, and it is an extra honor to be asked to be the storyteller
as they enter a new chapter in their lives. Jessika and Geoff got
married about 2 years ago and in about a month they will welcome their new baby girl!
We had a beautiful afternoon to capture the
beautiful moments of pregnancy and it was so much fun to capture their love
again with my camera as they wait these last few weeks for their little
miracle to arrive.
I am excited to meet baby Hailey and am honored that I will be there to photograph her as she grows her first year!

52 Week Challenge, Week 12: Sunkissin'
Something that I have learned, yet don't always remember when out on a photo shoot, is to turn around. What I mean is often times the best scene for your next best shot is behind you, but you miss it if you don't turn around.
I had a great time with my clients Mae and Kevin tonight as we ventured downtown on this beautiful spring evening to enjoy the evening sunset.
Our goal was to end the session on the balcony of their condo building to catch the sunset and as we walked out onto the balcony I immediately noticed the beautiful golden sun. I knew we were in for some great shots! I got many of them!
As we were leaving and I went to go open the door to go back into the building, I turned around and saw how the warm sun filled the covered part of the balcony and immediately ushered the love birds back into the sun. One more moment to capture...some sunkissin'!

52 Week Challenge Week 12: Tea Time
I LOVE coffee! I love the taste, I love the experience, I love having a cup of coffee with a friend, as I read. I love wrapping my hands around the warm mug. I love the creamy, sweet goodness. So, one might think you could get the same experience from tea, right? Well I never thought I could. What is good about tea? It seemed flat in flavor, not very exciting and putting cream in it seemed silly. Well, thank you to my friend Allison, I have started to change my tune.
A few weeks ago we went to Tina's Traditional Old English Tearoom with our friend, Kristi and it was delightful!! I was pleasantly surprised when I actually liked the chai tea and the vanilla lavender tea. Then today, Allison and I went to lunch, and after tasting her chai tea I promptly ordered myself one! That has NEVER happened.
When they brought Allison's tea, I was taken by the cute, and adorable serving of cream and sugar....I will admit, it drew me inn to the tea experience! I won't say that I am giving up my coffee, but I will order tea again!

52 Week Challenge Week 11: Mommies and Daughters
I had a fun weekend in Cleveland this past week. While having a great Sunday dinner made by my dad, I had a great time visiting with two of my brothers, my sister-in-law and my niece. My sister-in-law, Colleen, is growing in her love for photography and is starting a business. We had a fun conversation about the technical side of photography and so we got my camera out and had a hands-on lesson.
I had Colleen test out her new skills on Abigail and I to capture our matching outfits, and of course I was excited to reciprocate and take a few sweet moments of her and Kiley. I have several great shots, but this one is one of my favorites! Notice how the girls both have the same face of excitement! Love that!
Abigail and my niece are just a week apart so it is fun to see them starting to play together and watch them reach different milestones. I am excited for them to have each other as they grow up. I always wanted a girl cousin close to my age when growing up. I love my sister, don't get me wrong, but she is 7 years younger than me and she was the closest girl cousin to me on both sides of my family. I wanted that built in friend in a cousin. So, I am excited for Abigail and Kiley to have that as they grow up!

Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep: Indianapolis Rememberance Photography
Almost 7 years ago, we lost a baby to miscarriage, and being that it was our first, we of course took it pretty hard. Our wedding photographer contacted me shortly after we lost sweet Therese Marie, and told me about an organization called Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. (NILMDTS) I immediately checked out their website and knew I wanted to be involved!
NILMDTS is a non-profit organization started in Colorado, by photographer Sandy Puc and a mom, Cheryl, who had just lost her son. Sandy took beautiful images of Cheryl's son after he unexpectedly passed away shortly after birth and a beautiful organization was born out of her experience.
Remembrance photographer not only gives reality to parents in the midst of their pain and shock of losing a child, but it is also a huge part of their healing process as they grieve the loss of their precious child. Volunteer photographers go into hospitals, free of charge and take professional portraits of a baby who was either still born, being taken off life support, or not expected to live very long. The families receive a disc of all the images to use, print and share, again free of charge.
I am beyond honored to be a photographer for this amazing organization. People often ask me how and I why I do it. My first answer is I do it because it is a way for me to honor our daughter that we lost. We lost her so early in the pregnancy that we of course didn't have any pictures of her, so I want to be able to give to families what we couldn't have. How do I do it? I know that my daughter is in Heaven praying for me to have the strength to get through every session. I love on that baby, as the precious gift that they are. Even though they are only on this earth for a short time, they are still the beloved daughters and sons of their parents. I am so grateful to be able to give them professional photographs to hang in their home of their child, just like they would of any other children. Or at least to have them to look at when they want, even if they don't choose to display them on the wall.
Several years ago, as I was editing one of the sessions, God gave me a beautiful realization. These children that I get to photograph, will KNOW me when I get to Heaven! I got so excited to know that I will meet them in a whole new way someday!
It is such a privilege to get to meet some of these precious ones that are only here for sometimes just moments. An honor that sometimes not all family members even get.
This recent session was especially important to me. I met Stephanie and Adam a few years ago when my husband and I were coordinating one of Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University Classes at our church. I immediately connected with Stephanie as our youngest children were about the same age, so as tired, new moms again, we understood each other very well! =)
A few months ago I was excited to see that she posted on Facebook that she was expecting identical twin girls. I was really excited for them, because I have always wanted identical twins!
I followed her pregnancy, joy and anticipation as she waited for her girls to arrive. I prayed and hoped with her, as the health of one of the girls, Laynie, was not doing so well. The doctors decided to do a c-section at 27 weeks because Laynie's cord was not looking good. After they were born, everyone was still hopeful and I prayed daily for Laynie to get stronger and for the wisdom of the doctors. I knew it was possible that Laynie may not make it, yet I continued to pray. I didn't want to tell Stephanie about NILMDTS because I didn't even want that to have to be a possibility for her, but I kept a close watch for the requests that come in for NILMDTS sessions. As I was picking my son up from school on a Wednesday afternoon, I got the text message for a session request for a twin baby girl being removed from life-support. My heart sank, as I of course, assumed the worst. I confirmed with our dispatch of the family name, and immediately responded that I would take the session. I wanted Stephanie and Adam to have a familiar face as they went through this difficult and painful time.
Stephanie had no idea that I was a photographer for NILMDTS, so when I walked in the room, we just embraced and cried together. I was so grateful that I was able to be their photographer. Sweet Laynie, the fighter that she was, although had been removed from life support for about 30 minutes when I had arrived, was still alive through out our whole session. Her heart kept on ticking! She had such the sweetest features and LONG feet! I loved it! Daddy was holding on tight to his little girl and I loved capturing that love that I was able to witness.
The reason I wanted to take so much time to write this post, is because I want more people to know that this organization exists. It breaks my heart when I hear that someone lost a child and was never offered the services of NILMDTS. Please, although sometimes difficult, share this organization with families that you know who are in need.
Laynie's twin sister, Lorelai is doing awesome and getting stronger everyday. Stephanie told me that night, that they believe Laynie's purpose in life was to get her sister here safe and sound. Mission accomplished! Now they have a saint in Heaven praying for their family everyday!
